Meet Dr Elizabeth Howl

Clinical Psychologist

I am a Chartered Clinical Psychologist, registered with the Health & Care Professions Council and the British Psychological Society. I have over 10 years’ experience working in the National Health Service, supporting individuals through a wide range of emotional and psychological difficulties.

I work with people experiencing challenges such as trauma, anxiety, low mood, depression, burnout, stress, self-esteem difficulties, and significant life changes including career transitions, relationship changes, retirement, and identity shifts. I also work with neurodivergent individuals.

Alongside this, I have specialist expertise in supporting individuals and families affected by chronic and neurological health conditions, including acquired brain injury, stroke, multiple sclerosis, and progressive or degenerative conditions. I understand how living with a health condition can impact emotional wellbeing, relationships, sense of self, and plans for the future.

I can help you reflect on what you would like your life to be about, recognise what may be getting in the way, and develop practical skills and strategies to manage emotions, navigate uncertainty, and move towards a life that feels meaningful and aligned with your values.

When a health condition or major life change enters your life, it can affect not only you but also those close to you. I offer support for partners and families, helping you make sense of these experiences together and find ways forward that feel compassionate and sustainable.

I offer appointments online, in clinic in Thame, and through home visits, allowing flexibility to meet your needs and circumstances.

What to Expect

How to start....

Free 15 Minute Telephone Consultation

Start by booking an initial consultation. This appointment will allow you time to discuss the reasons you are considering coming to therapy and discuss the best type of therapy for you.

Together we can decide if the type of therapy I provide is the best fit for you. If we think a different type of therapy would be more helpful to you, I can provide recommendations on how to access that support.

What next....

Psychological Assessment

Once we have decided that I am the best fit to support you, we can schedule another appointment. This appointment will be 60 minutes and can be online or in-person (clinic room or home visit). We will discuss more about the difficulties you are experiencing and your past history, including family, physical and mental health.

At the end of this appointment we will consider if another assessment appointment is needed, to fully understand your difficulties, or if we can commence psychological therapy.
